Congratulations, eastcoastsponger - truly an "in your face" shot!

Was I the only one who had a hard time figuring out what Jason wanted this week?

I know what "subject" and "predicate" are in grammar but....how to illustrate that since entries needed a title, yet Jason didn't want anything describing the shot (or words to that effect)??

The topic was fairly wide open to interpretation, and I simply wanted your submissions to demonstrate a "subject", and what that subject was doing or involved in. Irregardless of a title, I just did not want to see additional information, like; "This is Joe BMX catching big air at the bike-o-rama park..."

Nevertheless, I hope this challenge was not to problematic, I feel you all did well.

Anyway, here are my views:

kbColorado--
First thought that came to mind when I first saw this submission was "who in the heck drinks Killian's Red out of a can?!?!?" Answer; this extreme "dude" does. Something tells me these two beers are for himself...and I hope someone hid his car keys (visible in left hand) later on. Nice capture, tells a simple story; he is ready to party. A bit centered for my taste and for this particular composition, but that is only my affair. Nicely done.

teekay--
Once again, simple story; a group of men are playing Frisbee. At first glance, I thought they were involved in a casual game of volleyball. This crowd looks more like the Sam Adams type. Nice capture playful capture, too bad the one gentleman on my right decided to wear a super white shirt...the nerve! Nicely done.

Mo--
Young man tries to catch water in his mouth, 'nuff said there. Spot-on exposure in harsh light, good color and contrast. Well done.

Allen--
An American couple pose for the camera, simple. Nice conversion to b&w, spot-on exposure and your reflection in their sunglasses is masked well enough. Tough-as-nails vet (Marine?) and his equally strong woman, ready to support their country. Was this an event for an American Legion post? Well done.

pappawheely (Mike)--
This one gave me a big smile; how wonderful, winning the race, a big trophy and a kiss from a lovely lady. Man, you don't get that in photography. Nice colors and exposure, though I think a bigger crop (if this was cropped) would have been better for me even if there was other activities beside these two. It just feels too tight. And I sure would have loved to see a larger sample too, or at least a link to a bigger file. Still, a fun picture that perhaps did not win this competition, but came in as a runner-up. No pretty woman here to give you a kiss, but I can blow one to you if necessary...;)

Jean-Guy--
A group of people look at the Easter Island statue, or is the statue looking at them? Just as your title implies, and it is a very nice double entendre if you will. Nice composition and exposure, while keeping the clouds controlled. Nicely done.

Gail--
A woman takes a picture of the photographer, while simultaneously having her picture taken as well. Simple. Spot on exposure with lovely colors and detail, a little off-center which is good. Had your subject been looking at you instead of composing (or "chimping"), it would have been better in my book. Well done.

Kevan--
I'd be smiling to if I had a walk like that, what a lovely setting and you captured the soft serenity of this scene and a subject he is right at home in your frame. Centered, yeah, and it works in this composition. Soft, gentle exposure is perfect for this capture, no excess post and that helps. My only nit is not really a nit, but a suggestion; cropping off a little bit on each side, while maintaining subject center, would really tighten-up this image. Though not mentioned, you get the HM for this challenge...but no kiss! :)

sandwedge--
Inventive, ghostly and a little lucky too. The ghostly girl conjures lightning with her magic wand, that's my take. Could use a little cloning for hot pixels, but otherwise a nice effort. In future Canon DSLR challenges, could you please include basic exif (at least shutter value, f stop and iso) with your submission. Your link is to your photostream, and after 10 pages of searching I gave up on finding this submission to check exif. Thank you.

eastcoastsponger--
Biker gets serious air at the bike park, there you have it. Good exposure and framing, furthermore, your post along with the b&w conversion really work well here. Even though your subject is in the shade of a bright sunny day, he is well lit (reflected light?) and the entire composition is well controlled. I really like your subject's "engaged" look into his run, focused and determined. My only nit, and it's really not a nit, is the background. You got an excellent capture in which the light standards and the tall tree really do not hinder that much as to the story in front of them, and actually can be seen as part of the whole story. Very well done.

So eastcoastsponger took top honours for this challenge, with pappawheely taking the runner-up prize!

Big thanks Jason for taking the time to share your thoughts. The extreme dude is my youngest son Richard. You guys with little kids just wait ... play your cards right and maybe one day they'll be bringing you a cold beer after a long hike together ;)

Thanks Jason for the HM. This is my old man in happier times. I posted this image of him this week to honor him, as he is going through difficult times right now dealing with dementia and a move to a facility that will support him. We are hoping there will be more walks like this once he is acclimated.

Congrats to Chris, what an awesome shot.

Thanks for the explanation, Jason, and for taking the time to comment on all the entries - I know that is a lot of work!

Re my frisbee entry, they are actually playing in the finals of an Ultimate Frisbee competition with teams from several Canadian provinces. Looks like a really fun and growing sport, and since there is no fighting and body contact (unlike hockey!) teams contain both men and women.

Jason, thanks for the feedback. I've entered a few times before, but this time just completely forgot to post the exif info. I'll try to remember next time. Just for anybody interested:

Canon t2i, 18/55 kit lens
f/7.1
10 second exposure
ISO400

I used my second camera (50D) as fill flash.
