I fail to understand the criticism of his business's name.

"Guy With Camera" suggesting what some use as a rather derogatory term for an unskilled photographer that is really only known by a subset of those already in the field.

It is somewhat similar to geeks laughing about people living or working in room 404 or other standard error codes. Many geeks would understand all the giggling and such about the issue, but normal people haven't a clue as to what is going on. (But in general, geeks feel not having a clue is what defines many normal people a lot of the time.)

I seriously considered (albeit briefly) registering GWC Photography for a business name.

Most people that are out looking for a photographer aren't going to have clue that this is a term in the industry that is, as said above, somewhat derogatory. Bob and Nancy are searching for a photographer and come across GWC photography, do you really think that this is going to enter into the conversation. Only those that frequents forums will know about this and in that case it is really irrelevant. In fact there are a ton of people that we may refer to as GWC's that don't frequent forums and wouldn't have a clue on this. One of the girls that my daughter went to school with would fall into this category and when I called her a GWC in fun one evening she didn't have a clue what I was talking about. She is a stay at home mom, except for this, and quite honestly she does damn good work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her. Not all people that are just starting out do a poor job but that is what we infer with this term.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I fail to understand the criticism of his business's name.

It's more ironic than criticism, what got my attention where the spots that GWC is running on WFTL, in which it is mentioned “don’t leave the photographs of your special events to amateurs” which dovetailed with the GWC name gave me a bit of a chuckle.

It was only after I checked the GWC web page I realized the owner is the morning news guy at WFTL, who I guess is now branching into photography, as such the name might be quite appropriate.
