I have installed EoE Utility and updates for my canon rebel XTi and I am unable to make my computer see the plugin. It does see the camera but when it load is says error failing to read the plugin.

Does anyone knows what can cause this? I run windows 7Ultimate/64 with 8 gig ram. amd phantom II x4 proc/3.40 ghz with a ATI radeon hd 5700. Its a pretty ok computer and should have no problem!

thank you for any advice.

What version of EOS Utility did you install? I recently read that the newest versions do not support older cameras.

I suspect the problem is with the 64-bit OS. I am running Win7 Ultimate 32-bit and it works fine with my 5Dc and XTi

You may need to run a virtual XP session and execute EOS utility in it.

What do you mean by "plugin"? EOS Utility is a standalone application. Connect the usb cable, turn on the camera and launch EOS Utility from the Start menu.

None of this is useful without stating which version of EOS Utility is being used.

The Canon Xti, also known as the 400D or Canon Kiss x, is not supported in more recent versions of EOS Utility. This is from the Readme file for EOS Utility 2.10.4 and there have been versions released after this one:

http://support-sg.canon-asia.com …nts/SG/EN/0200189602.html (external link)

5. Supported Models
EOS Kiss X5 / EOS REBEL T3i / EOS 600D, EOS Kiss X50 / EOS REBEL T3 / EOS 1100D, EOS 60D, EOS Kiss X4 / EOS REBEL T2i / EOS 550D, EOS 7D, EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS Kiss X3 / EOS REBEL T1i / EOS 500D, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 50D, EOS 40D, EOS Kiss F / EOS REBEL XS / EOS 1000D, EOS Kiss X2 / EOS REBEL XSi / EOS 450D, EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS-1D Mark III

I should also add that the Canon 5D classic is also no longer supported in the newer versions of EOS Utility.

If all the OP wants is file transferal, the easiest solution is a card reader.

If all you're trying to do is get the photos from your camera to the PC then just use a card reader. Easier, faster, and way less problematic.

I will buy a card reader for 10$... it will save me the time to figure it out as I wasted enough time on it allready... Thx for the trouble :)

As I said above, I can use the Canon EOS utility latest version and it works with both my 5Dc and my XTi.

Having said that - I use a card reader for most of my transfers but I make sure EOS utility is still working in case I need it - like if I forget my card reader or whatever.

Hmm - do you use it to tether the camera for taking pictures or just to download? It could be the problem was only when tethering the camera.

Plus I think it was only with older Canon models - like the 5Dc and XTi.

Edit - See this thread
