for those with non internal focusing lenses

so on my 50mm i usually shoot with auto focus on. but once i turn the camera off, i cant get the extended part of the lens to go back in without switching it to manual focus and twisting it back in.

just wondering if theres another automatic way, who knows there might be just something im missing. maybe im too used the good ol p&s days where once you turn the camera off the lens pop back in.

The extra 5 seconds it takes hasn't bothered me too much yet

The closer you focus, the more the extended part sticks out. So, with this in mind, focus on the farthest object away before turning the camera off. Me, I don't really bother with it.

Try putting the lens cap on, and then half-pressing and holding the shutter. The lens will hunt for focus and then stop just where you want... (Last time I tried this it worked)
