We were expecting a huge snow storm yesterday... which also happened to be my last day of work for the year.
I was planning on leaving early, so I brought my camera in to work planning on taking a photo tour on the way home.
The conditions quickly became nasty and I had no right to be on the road. Fortunately, I just put new tires on the car and was able to get around without difficulty (unlike some other people).

Petrolia is a city near where I live and has been credited with starting the world's oil industry. Oil workers from this town travelled the world (Gobi, Iran, USA, ...) teaching others how to find and use crude oil.

The first 3 were taken from the Petrolia Discovery (external link) field museum.

DAN: Next week sounds good. I actually wouldn't mind going back there. I didn't leave my car since it was snowing too hard (lazy photographer shots). Can you blame me though? ;) When I get my 1D with rubber gaskets, I'll take it out!! Then you'll be drooling over MY camera!! (I wish)

JAY: Yeah, I think 2 stands out to me the most. I liked how the composition turned out. First time for me shooting in the rain/snow so I wasn't sure how they'd turn out. I tried to keep the shutter speed up... and I'm happy how they turned out.
4 stood out to me as a shot I just HAD to take. I passed it the first time, made note... then missed it on the way back and had to turn around again.

KAC: Thanks!! Yeah, since it was so cloudy and late in the day (nearing sunset) there wasn't much contrast... and obvisouly not much colour. I didn't have to worry about histogram clipping lets just put it that way! ;)
I like B&W and the focus you can put on contrast. I've been trying to develop my skills in this area.

Last two are keepers. They are simple and yet compelling.

The last two are picture postcard or holiday greeting card material. I like the third one a lot for the foreground interest that the old wheel provides.

Very nice shots.

Thanks guys!
About the car, I wouldn't have been able to shelter the lens enough... or if I did, my camera would have been ROCKED with snow. As you can see in some of those pictures, the snow was pretty much going sideways.

I really like the last three as well.

So I guess this is the place they named petroleum after ?

More like they named the area after what was discovered I would think.
