I like the idea, but I took a concientious decision only to use the best make of card - to avoid the bent pin / user screw up.
Especially as I noticed the card slot in the 7 D is too big for the card. Once I got it [very gently] about 5mm in; when I noticed it was skewed. Obviously took it out and assumed, as the pins were a long way from the receivers - no harm done?

Hence I looked for a Sandisk card but could only find a SD card version! I'm going to phone them tomorrow.
Is it my imagination that withthe advent of the latest gen. SHHCX cards CF is now a dying breed?
Are Eye-Fi cards made in CF format?, or does one need a jacket, and does this cause problems / delays in file transfer. If it needs a jacket has anyone a recommendation for the best make of jacket [quality build]?

PS I only want to be able the download the JPEG to a laptop as I take them. Sort of wireless 1/2 tethering. No desire to start controlling the camera from the laptop.

Also interested how this works on Windows 7? as all the reports I've read so far, all seem to be ipad 2 or new iPad linked.
Any info welcomed

No Wi-Fi in a CF format, and no, there is not great way to use Eye fi in the 7D. There are just a handful of CF/SD adapters that work with the WiFi card, however they are flaky in normal operation, due to reduced range, etc. Go hit up the Wi Fi forums, there are many folks that keep trying this out, and there might be some new developments I am not aware of.

And no, CF is not quite in its dying throes, otherwise Canon's newest flagship, the 1DX, would not sport 2 CF slots, instead of 1 CF and 1 SD (like past 1Ds) or 2 SDs.

EDIT: This person seems to have found a working combination with reduced wifi range on the 7D, you have to get the exact CF adapter though, they are all different enough to cause issues if you get the wrong one: http://www.photobyove.com/blog/?page_id=46 (external link)

AFAIK, the Eye Fi cards are only available in the SD format.

I got one for my S95, and it works pretty good. It was a no-go on my 7D using an SD to CF card adaptor, though.

This and the 8gig Eye-Fi, It works fine. Haven't noticed any loss in range, but use it mostly in studio, as well with an iPad 3 for client previews on set.

I havent bothered to take the eye-fi out of the adaptor even for use in the 1DsIII

From when I tried it- the device listed in post #5 works- to an extent. But reliability is another thing. I've had shots that I took- disappear. That was the end of the testing...

What we really need is a third party that comes in and creates a el-cheapo wireless adapter- something to compete with Canon's wifi adapter..

Odd. I've got 800+ captures on that setup, haven't "lost" anything.
Go figure. Interference maybe? There are some variables, who knows.

Thanks Teamspeed,
I don't mind if its slow or reduced range as long as it gets say 4 meters depenably and put the photo on the laptop - that will do me fine.

Can you say EXACTLY which eye-fi card and exactly which SD/CF adapter - Model numbers please as this could avoid me ending up with a problem.

@Okiewan - my point is your mileage may vary. I had just gotten the setup- and was playing with it for a day or two. It was all working fine- then all of a sudden- I went to playback- and the last several pics- gone. No parts of a picture- no squigglies, no nothing- just gone.. I wish eye-fi would come out with their own complete solution- rather than having us piece it together.

Several POTN users have used the Eye-Fi on their 7D. UDMA adapters + X2 versions of EyeFi work in newer cameras like 7D and 5DII
