The benefit to turning it off is saving battery life, it's true, but if you've got >= 2 batteries and can swap/charge, it really won't make a difference.

While I've never had this issue during weddings, when I shoot the odd baseball game here and there for some folks I know, if I am getting fast shutter speeds, like > 1/1000, then I tend to turn IS off because it may interfere with tracking subjects in AI Servo. Or at least put in in mode 2.
