Well looks like I know what I am going to be asking for for Xmas :)
Probably will pick up the cheaper combo with the 18-55mm kit lens and then a month or so later grab the EF/S adapter. So glad this has come out and should make a great family/fun camera for me and the wife without having to lug my 20D around.

Really going to be interested to see some user sample shots with this, then couple it with something like the Rokinon 24mm F/1.4 offering or better yet their 8mm fisheye and I am sure that you will get some great photos! If I can, I will forego either of the kit lenses and grab just the body with the adapter and then run this with my Tokina 19-35mm (plastic fantastic) as really that is my main walk around lens.

Gear: EOS-M w/ 18-55mm & 22mm f/2 (EF-M to EF adapter), DEAD-Canon EOS 20D w/ Phottix Grip, Canon 50mm f/1.8 mkII, Tamron SP AF 24-135mm MACRO f/3.5-5.6, Tokina 19-35mm f/3.5-5.6 SOLD, Canon 55-250mm MK I IS,

So I take it you don't want a complementing compact camera that you can use your existing lenses on?
Because I do and this seems perfect to me (assuming AF performance is similar to Rebelish dSLR).

Not really. No EVF, horrible balance with my EF lenses, no in-body IS, horrible AF and $1,000 with an adapter? Why exactly should I be drooling over this?

1:25 in shows the speed of the autofocus, with the faster kit lens....

looks pretty slow compared to other mirrorless cameras, but serviceable if shooting at a slower pace.

Maybe somebody will take advantage of the business opportunity and make one of these to match this camera with the kit prime lens: http://www.ebay.com …-ViewFinder-/220930603275 (external link)

I'm a little disappointed that they didn't use more of the G1X design... more buttons, built in flash (yes the EOS-M comes with one, but you have to store it somewhere) and a mode dial (heck my S100 has one!) I have gotten used to my new smartphone over the past several months so I think I would deal fine with the touchscreen controls however. The EOS-M looks like a slippery little thing, but if it's like my S100 I suppose I wouldn't drop it, but with a heavier lens.... dunno.

$800 wouldn't be bad if it came with the EF adapter they should give it as a $100 option since most people buying this camera will be consumers that will just use the kit lens anyways. I am still interested in this camera but think I will have to wait for the price to come down, perhaps around Christmas time which I find is a good time to buy a camera body.

Yeh, I don't get the excitement of putting my L lenses on a P&S on steroids. I just cannot see anyone doing serious photography with no viewfinder, especially when the sun obscures your LCD.

The flash is included in MOST markets (according to dpreview), but they do not give a list of the markets of exception.

Did not see anything on the Canon site or at B&H that suggests that the kit comes with the external flash.

I didn't see it (ext flash) included as well. Listed/Sold separately.

I think the specs are great, the sensor size and what it will produce. I did get a kick out of the photo a few pages back with all the EF lenses mounted on the new EOS M bodies. I personally couldn't see mounting my 70-300L to it, I'd just grab a DSLR for that - lol.

Then use your rebel that can be picked up for less than $400 and deliver better results. $800 for this P&S plus another $200 for the adapter makes this camera more expensive than just about any Canon DSLR.
