The new specs, features and designs of Canon's new EOS M mirror-less camera are very exciting for photographers and filmmakers alike: Canon EOS Specs, Features and Images (external link).

I am hoping that I will order one of these very soon as a C-Cam for shooting HD Video with my EOS 60D and EOS 7D.

I think that this camera fits in a lot for its size and price. What about you guys?

this sounds a lot like a Canon Marketing Statistics Grab... haha

Only Canon pushes this camera as a C-Cam video rig and acknowledges it's compatibility with their other systems.

I personally have no interest in a camera without a viewfinder. At that point, I'll just use my phone.

You must be as old as me.... ;)

I wish they'd put the sensor deeper into the body so that the EF adapter could have been a lot smaller.

A camera like this needs to be optimised for it's own native lens system to give it a chance of being competitive on size. Fitting DSLR lenses on a mirrorless body is a secondary concern.

WIth the 22mm lens, it's interesting. That gives a DSLR sensor on a pocketable camera. But that's where it ends. No viewfinder (holding at arm's length is not stable) and it's not pocketable with a useful lens. I'd almost rather use a Rebel with the new 40mm pancake lens on it.

J.

There are various ways to hold a camera without an eye-level viewfinder that give plenty of stability. The zombie method is not one of them :).

The Rebel XS (1000D) has sensor cleaning (ICS). At least mine does.

XS came after the XTi.

Of course, the older you get, the farther away you'll need to hold it to see anything on the LCD.

Waste of time IMHO. No EVF or OVF, no proper knobs & dials, no built-in flash, probably slow AF and it's pricey too. If I really wanted a small, high quality DSLR replacement, the OM D 5 would top my list (or a Rebel).

Annoyingly, the OMD-5 cannot use my Canon lenses.

I love how people complain about the price of this, then also mention the OMD. The OMD is significantly more expensive and that's w/o a lens.... Granted it's probably not the same people complaining about both, but you get my point.

The om-d has flip-up/down amoled screen, weather sealing, in-body IS, and built-in EVF. Granted some people probably don't need some of those, but its premium over the eos-m is warranted, at least imo.

In comparison, the eos-m is almost like the e-pm1, olympus' most basic/affordable camera at $500 with kitlens on release date.

I'm actually not bothered too much about the eos-m if only they did at least one of the two: [1] cheaper price, [2] a newer sensor (initial reports seem to indicate that it's using the same sensor as the t4i, which is a revamped t3i sensor, which is the same one that came with the 7d in 2009).

You get a hell of a lot more from the OMD than this camera. If Canon would offer an equivalent functionality camera, how much do you think they would charge. I shake just thinking about it's sticker shock price tag.

I think I see the M as a bit of a step up from the PM1. I feel like it's a bit more like the PL3; it may not be exactly that, but I think it fits closer to it. However, that said, I'm definitely in the camp that thinks it's priced too high. I feel like $650 - $700 is a much better price point, and I doubt I'll pick one up until the price gets at least that low (and, if some people in this thread are right, I may not have to wait too long!)

Exact number of buttons (as far as I can tell) and lack of mode dial tells me it's more of an e-pm1 actually. But you're probably looking at it as an overall package, especially since the eos-m's touch screen probably makes up for its lack of direct controls, so fair enough.

More like a PM1 with a touch screen. Seeing as how you can pick up a PM1 with kit zoom for $300 i just don't see the Canon being worth the extra money.
