Awesome displays Ray - nicely captured as always. Was just wondering how the displays are up there lately, as activity has been quite good. The most recent flare up of course coincides with overcast skies here :(

Thank you.

That was Tuesday night between 9:00-11:00 PM Alaska time. And yes, we are having cloudy skies for the rest of the week. It's clear right now (6:00 PM) :)

Hope this is an appropriate thread to post in. I've got a 5D2, with a Rode stereomic and Magic Lantern installed (if any of that is relevant). At exactly one second into many of my shots there is a loud pop of white noise, lasting for just a frame or so. It happens a lot, and with different mics, but I've no idea what it is. Any clue?

It's OK to ask the question here, but in my view you would receive a faster response by asking at the Magic Lantern forum.

Last week we had lots of snow on the ground in Fairbanks, Alaska. The snow has melted, and on the local lakes there is plenty of open water for great reflections. Too many photos to post, so I chose these two:

Thank you.

By the way, I use the Tokina 16-28mm. I entered the 11-16 in my gallery by error.

Never even considered that lens before. I was thinking of getting a 6d for low light/milky way but that shot made me think twice.

It's not a bad lens at all considering that it cost around $700.00 when I purchased it. For shots of the Auroras I use from 640-800 ISO, in three modes (A, B, and C), and the lens at f/2.8, plus 10-13 seconds exposures. If the lights are very bright, I sometimes bring the ISO back to 640.

The only problem with this lens is that the lens hood is fixed in place, so one has to buy a filter adaptor and filters for landscapes photography. This is not a problem at all for night photography, including the Auroras, cityscapes, and so on.

I was out with the family last night doing fall stuff up in the country, and just as the sun set behind the corn, I had to catch a little of that light on the sunflowers, and my mind went back in time about 30 years to being a little kid at my grandparents house...shot with the 5DII and my trusty 24-70L. Such a great pair.
