I actually think there's a benefit to older/slower cameras with "bad autofocus" - they force everyone to take a "time out" slow down - think about what they're doing and why... That can make a big difference between average work and amazing work!!

I agree, I never use AF for landscape anyway. Now certainly the 5D4, R5 is a pretty significant improvement over the 5D2 in dynamic range, and a few creature comforts but for landscape shooting the actual process isnt much if any different.. Live view, zoom in to the spot you want critical focus on, and manually focus. I don't miss needing to use mirror lock-up though :)

Ummm... for high DoF shooting the focus guide will do a great job in a pinch, but more often than not I choose to focus manually on a zoomed view. It's more deliberate, and why be in a hurry.

Anyone upgrading their 2008 5D Mark II for a 2021 R5?

I went from the 5DII to the R to the R5.

Not sure your question, but I never regretted going mirrorless. Advantages abound. I still have the 5DII, but it is relegated to remote camera setup in places I cannot be.

What do you mean by "remote camera"?

I work at Cape Canaveral. Sometimes I set it up VERY close to a launching rocket (think 300-2000 feet away). I cannot be there in person, nor am I willing to risk one of my new mirrorless cameras that close. So the 5DII gets the job along with a remote sound-activated trigger.

Here are examples of remote camera captures with the 5DII:

Sorry about the landing pic. That was with the EOS R with a very long lens, not the 5DII. I do have a remote camera shot of the landing somewhere. I'll root around and try and find it . . .

A couple more 5DII images. The first is a Delta IV (M) launching from Pad 37, with the remains of Pad 34 in the foreground. Pad 34 is where the Apollo 1 astronauts died in the fire.

The next shot is an almost launch of a Delta IV Heavy. Ignition started, but the computer aborted the launch at about 1 second to liftoff. Those Delta IV rockets put on quite a show!
