I need this clarified.. Can i fire off the 430 external without the pop-up firing it's flash. I can use the nissin as external but the builtin pop-up flash needs to fire off a flash inorder for the nissin flash to fire. Look at these videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn1xioiYgpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruQBbenSlM0 And in the tutorial at 2:30 he says that the built-in flash doesent have to fire in order to have the 430 fire external. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-in23ZXErM Dedsen is correct. The pop-up must fire a pre-flash to tell the wireless flashes to fire and at what intensity. You have the choice on the 60D menu whether to have the pop-up only function as a trigger and not contribute to the exposure, or whether to have the pop-up provide a modest amount of fill light during the exposure. I use it both ways depending on circumstances. Hugh

RPCrowe Cream of the Crop More info | The Canon wireless system works quite well indoors if there is line of sight between the camera and the flash. It is often beneficial to rotate the head of the flash so that the red window is facing the camera. See my images at http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/
