Hi Guys,
Just dipping my toe into shooting astro/celestial. Just to confirm what I think, am I seeing ambient light pollution across the milky way?
Thanks!

LP is any lights on the ground shining up into space and if your close enough then with long exposures your camera will absorb light in the sky in your pictures . Looks like something around the building that is lite up cause the roof top is near blow out on the pitch . Nice shot on the MW but i would move away from any man-made structures for shooting the MW tho . I know alot are adding buildings to their MW shots but IMHO that just destroys the image .

Did you do any processing? Usually LP fades off more gradually. What were your settings? I'd say you can get a pretty nice image with stacking. And I agree with Ron, lose the roof from the FOV, and keep at it

Jul 23, 2012 23:58 | #5 Thanks guys, I reckon the "pollution" ending abruptly is due to aggressive editing in LR. I was trying to squeeze the haze out while keeping the MW visible. The result is a compromise. Andy

I use a clip in LP filter but they're expensive if you're just messing around. There are gradient removal techniques for Light Room you can search for. You can also frame or crop the picture so you don't include the area without the LP. I have lots of LP here and there's no good way around it, other than driving away from the LP.
