Did I say: "Your Majesty"? Sorry, you might have miss-heard me, meant to say: "SOB"!

This guy's price was too close to the B&H's. I'll either get it from a friend of ours or B&H on Sunday...

Thanks Dante.

Dante, got a question for you: the Tamron choice in your L collection is intentional or interim? Thanks.

intentional for now. While I build my fast prime collection to take over the planet, I am quite happy with a zoom that is almost the equiv of a lens 3 times its price and weight. this tammy lens is stellar and I just have not been using zooms enough to justify the switch as the gain, IMHO, would be nominal.

Psst, Dante, I might be getting a 16-35 zoom on a neighboring forum... If I get it, I may have to pass on the 35L for a little while...

You could also look at the 35mm f2 version, which is an excellent lens at one fifth the price. I'm finding it difficult to choose between them.

good point. However, does it have that creamy bokeh, and razon thin DoF? Does it have that *POP* that the L version is known for? ......Does it have that red stripe? ;-)a

Used the f2 for a while and not that impressed - OK for the money though I suppose

Ok if stopped down to 5.6 but the 1.4 seems to be in a class of it's own from the samples I've seen ( and the reviews)

yes, well on a crop cam, the 16mm end might have some merit. I had a 16-35 once but sold it to replace it with sharp primes. 35mm is simply fantastic. period. besides, I found myself at the 35mm end of the 16-35 lens most of the time anyway.

The differences may not be as great as you appear to believe - check out some of the reviews.

Clearly the bokeh and dof will be slighly less at f2 than f1.4, but 'pop' has really got more to do with lighting etc than the lens (it's possible to take low contrast pics with the L, and also possible to get great contrast with the f2).

Red stripe? I guess its importance depends on the person ;)

I'm not suggesting the f2 is better - but maybe 90% as good, especially if shooting at 2.5 or wider, for one fifth the price.
