Hello! I was wondering what you guys would recommend using and or staying away from. I was looking at getting 1 polarized and 1 u/v filter and was wondering which brand to buy or stay away??

For CPL I would go with a B+W MRC filter. As for the UV I wouldn't buy one. Always buy a good CPL from either B+W or Hoya. Expect to pay around $150.00-$200.00 depending on size. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=807555

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

One top grade circular polarizing filter. All the rest use as coasters such as UV filters, most of todays cameras have UV filters incorporated in the sensors.

You'll get a ton of recommendations for either the B&W MRC circular polarizer or the Kaeseman variety, the difference (as I understand it) is the latter is weather sealed. I have the non-Kaeseman and love it.

I don't have UV filters for all my lenses, just the 70-200L that came with it when I bought it. I only put it on when I'm going into an area with blowing dirt/dust or water spray.

I use Hoya EVO protector (no reason to have UV filtering) filter on my 70-300L for weather sealing. It is very, very good. If I get a CPL it will be another EVO.

Went with the lesser known Maruimi myself and have no regrets. The CPL and Variable ND filters are outstanding.

Is Tiffen complete rubbish or more 'middle of the road'?

I'd go with Tiffen ------------> Hoya ----> B&W

Least to greatest, and the arrow lengths are representative.

I have several B+W MRC circular polarizers and they are excellent. Forget about UV or protective filters. Instead take that money and give it to a good charity.

i use a tiffen uv filter for protection to the lens and that they actually block UV and i have proven that with a UV light.

There is a pretty detailed sticky on this. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=807555

You will find zealots on both sides of the fence on this matter. Regardless, if you decide to use a UV filter, get a good quality one. I personally use a B+W UV filter to weather seal and protect my lenses.

This doesn't matter... todays' censors aren't bothered by UV, like film was.
