Is the 17-40/16-35 the sharpest option?

So...bought a 24mm and now my 17-40 looks soft in comparison.

With sigma/tamron WA options out there - how do they compare to the Canons?

for a 5D i don't think there are any sigma or tamron WA options...i mean there's some older stuff...
