im shooting in a night club that has the disco ball multi colored lights strobes, the works, i have brought my 24-105 and used a flash and shot in PROGRAM( i hate saying that)
i then have shot with my 50mm 1.2 and played with AV without a flash as well as used flash in ETTL
tonight i was thinking of bringing the 85mm 1.2 and shooting without a flash and shooting in RAW, if you had this arsenal, and you wanted to roam the club lightweight, which camera lens set up would you use? and why? i prefer the shots where you catch people and the band in the ambiance light.
any help would be greatly appreciated

i would use an ultrawide lens and off-camera flash, exposing for ambient.

For a club I would think you would want wide? At least I would.

I would also try to get flash off camera.

I got this for $15 bucks

Tried and tested and worked everytime for me. Never had a unworthy photo.

If you're shooting the people in the club, I'd go with a wider lens. Either a 24mm or 35mm accompanied with an off camera flash.

What I used to do was use a 430exII on camera to provide minor fill and focus assist, which triggered another flash in hand that I boomed over the subjects.

Great results, but the camera combo gets a little heavy if you don't have the proper strap setup.

what you posted is fine for the 85, but what about shots like this?

you'll need flash. an off-camera cord, held in the left hand, would work fine.
