i've taken roughly 15k pics with my S90 and iphone 4, enjoying both very much while patiently waiting for Canon's first mirrorless... i'll be weighing on the new M soon (after i read all 345 replies in the big M thread) and look forward to new discussions as well.

The only think I might look into it for is timelapse work.

I think many serious shooters are unimpressed with the spec sheet but I think as Canon's first offering in the mirrorless segment, it will do fairly well, drawing the novice and enthusiast crowd looking for compact and easy to use.
I was excited to see what Canon would do but aside from a couple of features, I was mostly unimpressed (my over anxiousness contributing to that, so not Canon's fault) but glad they finally jumped in. I'm mostly curious to see what the 2nd version or model brings to the table in I suspect, a year or less from now.

At $799 for the kit and $249 for the 22mm, I assume that makes the body about $550, which is a good price IMO.
What I would love to see is a prosumer version with more of a G12 type body in 6 months. I think Canon could charge $799 for that body alone and it would sell well.

Just my ramblings and hopes of course ;)

Unless they come out with an AC adapter for it, that would be a short timelapse with estimate battery life at 230 shots lol

O_O I stand corrected. But a ILC with an adapter hmm... I mean I guess the setup is small to put away in a corner and would look less obtrusive than a DSLR but still, idk...

I find that my lenses are too cumbersome, moreso than the body. So a body that has close to a point and shoot format with my lenses really won't help my way of shooting. Now if I want 1 or 2 small lenses to make up a portable kit, I see the need for the EOS M, or the Olympus PEN line, etc.

What is your S90 not doing that you are looking for? The S90 is a tight lil' camera. I have thought about changing mine out to the S100 though.

i shoot in pitch black lighting and need to push the ISO without too much noise.

I have no doubt the M will basically perform like a mirrorless T4i, which I think is fine and will wipe the floor with Nikon's mirrorless offerings.

I'm still hopeful of a prosumer version with swivel screen :)

So what will be the price of the body only? Any clues?

i see no indications of a body-only offering.

You will be able to buy just body, there are companies that like to separate out packages since there is profit in selling individual components. Your estimate is probably pretty good, somewhere in the $500-600 range. You will most likely need to allocate funds for the EOS M->EF mount too.
