One thing that frustrates me a bit with the 5D3 is the lack of a pop-up flash. There have already been a few times when I wished I had the flash to use as fill lighting for basic snapshots. Also, I really liked the ability to be able to grab a Speedlight and place it on a nearby table/shelve for quick setup of off-camera flash around the house or at family gatherings. But now, without the pop-up flash, I have no way of triggering the off-camera flash.

What's the quickest, most simplistic solution to this dilemma?

Same here. I was just learning about using fill flash outdoors when i got my 5D. Ive kept my 60D for now so i can use off camera flash as i love setting my 580EXII up in the corner of a room at home and having the freedom to move around, but ive also just ordered a set of Yongnuo YN-622C Wireless E-TTL Flash Triggers. For £60 ( in the UK) i think these will be perfect, probably better thna using my 60D and its OB flash.

you must have the most negative space in photos out of any portrait photographer. not necessarily a bad thing as most the time the elements around your subjects really bring the viewer in but a lot nonetheless. Do you do a lot of cropping?

Bought a 5D3 today after due consideration. I've only managed a few test shots so far but two things immediately impress: the AF system and the noise control especially at higher ISOs. Here's one of my first shots at ISO 12800:

No, usually I try to frame it at the moment I take the photo, especially for full body portraits it is important for the DOF I am going for.
