Snapped a quick shot when my wife Lemon pledge'd the table ; ) I think I like the BW one better, the color one is an HDR just to gather more of the color from the blinds behind it (They were dark when doing single shot exposing for the glasses).

The color just does not add enough, IMO, to make it work, the story is better told via B&W... 1Dx | 7D2 | EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS | EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II | EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II | And a few more red lines.

The drape on the left draws my eye away from the subject. The B&W showcases the wavelike patterns in the glass and reflecting on the table. Gear List | Feedback | facebook

Aug 17, 2012 13:10 | #1069 ^^Sounds like you guys agree ; ) I knew I liked the BW better, but I find it hard expressing why. You've pinpointed it for me facedodge....it's the drape on the left. Too distracting. Thanks! Gear: 5D3, 135L, Sigma 35, 50 1.8 STM, 16-35 F/4L IS, 85/1.8, Fujifilm X100T

Lightroom has been my primary raw converter, which is great (especially as a DAM database), but some POTN members were gushing about Capture One, so I decided to give it a try. It is cool. In a side-by-side comparison with the same raw file (Capture One vs. Lightroom 4), I am very much drawn to the warmer, richer, more vibrant look that Capture One gives (I'm not suggesting my image is especially warm or rich...just that the Lightroom raw conversion appeared sterile by comparison). All my photos get primarily processed in Photoshop, and I'm not going to change that part of my workflow, so it remains to be seen if there is anything ultimate IQ gains with Capture One. So far I like it very much, but there is lot to learn though. Like you I've been hearing many sing the praises of Capture One, but I've been resisting through lack of time and other commitments....but I think you have persuaded me to give it a try. Growing old disgracefully!

Can I ask, when you looked at the LR image next to the Capture One image, could you see a straight-forward process to give the LR image the extra qualities that the C1 result has, albeit with more work? In Photoshop maybe? I'm curious about that because I have never quite understood whether the difference in the "quality" of my pictures stems as much from the original conversion as from the subsequent PP. A difficult question I know, but sometimes I think if I just got better at Photoshop I would be able to achieve the results I wanted all the time! ![]() Great questions Ricardo. I'm such a newbie with C1 that all I'm responding to thus far is what each converter delivers as a default image. I'm even giving Lightroom an advantage by having it use a custom profile calibrated specifically to my camera. But without making any vibrance/saturationadjustments in either LR or C1, I get a more vibrant richer result with C1. I've seen comparison reviews on the web that articulate the same thing, but also suggest that LR may enjoy an advantage in rendering details. David | Flickr

navydoc Cream of the Crop More info | I downloaded the trial version of C1 and so far, other than trying to wrap my brain around a new piece of software, I like the results of the one image I've processed with it. Gene - My Photo Gallery ||

But, like you, I don't know if a more vibrantly colored raw conversion really matters toward the end result. I nearly never make any special color adjustments inside LR because I feel I can target those adjustments better in PS. But, perhaps if my conversions are looking better to start with, the Photoshop work will be that much more efficient. I'm planning to process a bunch more shots this weekend and work exclusively with C1...more to come. ![]() Thanks David. I will watch with interest. The ability to resolve detail has always been important to me...maybe too much so. Sometimes the overall "quality" of an image is most important. I guess we look for the best of all worlds! navydoc wrote in post #14871962 I downloaded the trial version of C1 and so far, other than trying to wrap my brain around a new piece of software, I like the results of the one image I've processed with it.
