Started to get a little stir crazy, so today my wife and I took our month old son to the zoo. CC much appreciated.

Polar bears can sing in the rain too...

He was jumping around so the focus was missed. Are the rest really bad? Still learning PP and composition. They look alright to me, but I don't have experienced eyes.

Lol.no, they are all very good! Zoo photos are sometimes hard to get well done, and you did great! I just mentioned the monkey because its too sweet.;)

They all have interest and are a good start especially with a month old in tow. Congratulations!

The crocagator is nice. How far away and how big was it? The reason I ask is that the nose and eyes are in focus at 200 mm f/4. Nice job!

Spider monkeys are hard to get in focus especially when there is a fence that close for AF to lock onto. A smaller aperture may have helped depending on how close it was. Of course you would have to bump up the ISO to compensate. Yours is better than most of my attempts.

If they were mine I would bring the highlights of the polar bear, giraffe, rhino and wife down a bit. Try to keep the histogram from touching or stacking up on the right. Come close but don't touch. This should be done both when shooting and in PP.

Thanks, went back and saw in LR4 the arrows at each end for the highlights(whites) and darks (blacks). didn't see that when I first editing. :)

Glad to help. In case you didn't know the letter J will toggle whether it shows the clipped portions in the image. Red areas are clipped whites and blue areas are clipped blacks. It is very useful tool.
