That looks very nice, just a smidge smaller than the 580ex I'd say ;)

I like the 270 EX or EX II for this functionality. Its small and can bounce if needed. I always have it with me for fill flash if needed on my 5D3 or 1D Mark IV.

I bought a 270EXII for use with my G1 X, but find myself carrying it around for my 5DII as well.

I've been wanting a flash this small for JUST that purpose. Fill light using a 580EXII everywhere? Why? 90EX and/or 270EX II! :D

I thought the 270EXII can't be used a master? Can somebody enlighten me?

I was thinking about this as a fill flash for my 5D2...but...

The GN is 9m/30ft @ ISO 100...by comparison, a 30D's built in pop-up flash is 13m/49ft @ ISO 100...that's significantly weaker. Heck, the 90 EX is almost on par with...are you ready for this?...the S100's flash, from what I'm reading.

For $10 more, you can get a 270 EX II, which (though roughly 1/2 inch bigger in every direction) has more power (GN of 22m/72ft) and a swivel head. (Or for $10 less, you can get the original 270 EX, which still packs about the same amount of punch) and has the swivel head.

EDIT: Heck, even my ancient Pentax AF 160 SA (which I realize doesn't have ETTL, AF illumination, etc) has a GN of 16...and I picked that bad boy up for $2 at a thrift store :D (yes, I use it with my DSLRs and yes it works well).

If the reason for having one is to travel light (no pun intended) then it wouldn't have to ;)
