First, my apologies for having a very long story.

I went to the pond hoping the osprey will show up and fish, even though some friends have told me that they have not seen the osprey for a couple of weeks. After a few minutes I was convinced that the osprey would not show up so I walked around and was busy taking pics of songbirds and then I saw the osprey hovering on the pond, so I ran but I was too late. The osprey dove 3 times before it caught a fish. I followed the osprey when he landed on a log to consume his catch. Then suddenly, he flew and went back to the pond to fish. I saw the osprey dove twice, caught a fish and flew to the other side of the pond, and like the first, I was too late. I wanted to shoot myself, of course with the camera :)

Below are the shots when the osprey passed by me, the osprey was within eye level and was very close to me.

Today I visited the pond hoping I will have the same luck (or the lack of it). This time I stayed in the wooden planks beside the pond. I saw the osprey hover twice, but too far and did not fish. After a while I saw 10-15 GBHs flying and saw this eagle chasing them. It's either this eagle is protecting something, or is very hungry. I was lucky the eagle flew very close to me.

I like to read stories that go along with successful (and not so successful) photo ventures. These are successful in their own Jo, hopefully you'll get the fishing shots next time out :)

Loved the story, Jo. And despite your misfortune with the Osprey, you got away with some very good shots there. And how lucky to have the eagle fly by so close!!!

Thanks, the place is called Iona Beach and is quite popular to locals, specially this time of the year.

Thanks Ian, I had a sinking feeling that those where by best chances because the osprey usually fish on the far end of the pond, but those times it was on the near the boardwalk. Oh well, if not this year, maybe next year :)

Joe, thank you for sharing the story. It is meaningful and helps understand why the photographs are even more so special.

Interesting stories on the attempt to catch the fishing. But you did get some great in flight images and those are certainly worth the effort. Well done jo.
