I have been following this nest since early April when the adults arrived after their long migration. Knowing there were chicks in the nest, I have recently tried to get back there every 2 or 3 days. I was there on Sunday morning and the chicks (I guess they are now juveniles) were still hunkered down in the nest. When I arrived early yesterday morning, 'lo and behold', one was already off the nest and a second soon followed. Seeing these juveniles finally in the air is always the high point of my osprey season.

Harv, these are so good I had to look at the exif data. It says "420 mm lens", were these shot with one of the 300mm lenses? Which one? They're really excellent.

Thanks a lot, Rick.

Actually, the first two images were shot with my 1D MkIV and 300/2.8L IS + 2xTC III (600mm) and the remainder were shot with the same body and lens except with the 1.4xTC III (420mm).

Harv, these set is awesome! Now I really have to go and visit the osprey nests here (1 in North Van and 1 in Port Moody). Love the details on the feather and eyes, unmistakably young ospreys :)

Simply awesome. These have got to be the sharpest and best exposed Osprey shots I've ever seen (and that's a lot!). I've certainly can't get anything near these with my 300 f/4 and 7D, with or without a 1.4x. You must have been closer than I usually can get, I end up cropping so much the IQ isn't there. When I first looked at these I thought you must have been using a 500. Anyways, well done!
