Wonderful action shots Gary.

The second one I particularly like, Mrs Mallard seems to be crying out in pain as the attacker's beak finds a sensitive spot.

I apologize for the tardy response...been crazy busy and wanted to find the follow up shots...a big thanks to Rick, Harvey, Joe, Levina, dbricks, Lil. Crimzon, Paul, Peter, Ian , Doug, Don, Jeremy, Graham, Steve and Lester.

Here are some follow ups...in the first the mallard uses her size to try and intimidate the merganger who in turn does the same but then as seen in the third shot she leads the young ones away from the scene as the mallard goes on the offensive...

lol, just like the human species with their spats!
That is some size difference between them. But then, I am amazed that small birds like willy wagtails will bombard a large bird of prey with no fear, and the bird of prey is often chased away by them!
