Business card question

I am trying to get some business cards printed as reasonably as possible, bearing in mind that photography is not my "day job." I like everything about UV cards, especially the price...except that their online design tool is a little lacking. I have absolutely no graphic design skills, so I really need some kind of template to use.

On the other hand, MOO's online design tool is really good, and I like the look of their cards also...except that their prices are approximately 3 times as much as UV cards.

Anyone know of a good balance between the two? Printer with an online design option more like MOO's, but prices more in line with UV cards? Thanks for any help you can give on this. My "day job" handles the business card printing for me, so I have no experience at all.

what about finding a graphic artist to design the cards for you, then taking them to your own printer?

I use GotPrint for my cards, and love the quality. Their prices are stunning also.

I've tried using PrintPlace.com, their UV cards cards are absolutely gorgeous, with your design you could use their downloadable templates or you could ask assistance from their in-house graphic designer. I have always been satisfied with the quality and speed of service by this printer, definitely worth recommending. Goodluck to you!

Personally I always recommend dropping into a local small business printshop, and asking what they can do for you as far as a nice simple business card.

Remember, your business card is your contact info. It isn't your sales brochure, so you don't have to go all out with your design. Keep things clean and simple. (Also, keep a good chunk of whitespace open on the back. I've signed a few contracts in fields other than photography simply because a 'personal' or direct contact option was added "Just for them"... Not sure how it would have gone over if a few dozen of the people I did that for in a day ever got together and compared notes.)

Your goal should be to sell your services to someone, then give them the card so they can remember your contact info. Don't try to have your business cards sell for you. Get good quality paper, and good quality printing/edging. Snappy graphics won't make up for a cheap feeling card.
