Hey everyone...

Pretty much as the title states, I'm looking for a video companion for my 5D MK II. I've been saving up for a 1D MK IV, but work has been a bit slow lately so spending $3k+ isn't the smartest move to pull right now. So I've been looking at the 7D, T4/3i and 60D. The key video feature I want, is the 720p 60fps for slo-mo's, which is why another 5D MK II didn't make the list.

One thing that is probably a fairly big motivator, is that I have a good 20 or so fast (30/45/95mbps) SD Cards and only a handful of CF cards. It'd also be nice to share batteries between the 5D MK II and new camera which is only the 7D and 60D. I was really excited about the T4i when I heard about continuous AF for video, but since it requires STM lenses, its lost some ground since I'm only interested in the 40mm STM for now. And of course then there's the T3i which is a few hundred dollars cheaper than any of the other bodies. Aaagghhhhh! hahaha I wish I could just make a decision when I see something I like, instead of debating with myself between 3 or 4 models.

I guess really the 60D is probably my best choice for now. Takes SD cards, same battery as the 5D MK II, shoots 720p @ 60fps and even has manual audio controls. There's the rumors of a 70D but who knows what is true and when that'll come out. For those 60D owners out there, how happy are you with your video footage? Is there anyone else out there filming with both the 5D MK II and 60D? If so, how do you like the partnership?

Thanks! Any help is greatly appreciated!

When I bought my body with the specific intention of using it for video it was a toss up between the 5D Mk II and 60D. I went for the 60D mainly because of the convenience of the articulated screen. I'm not sure I have used that feature sufficiently to say it was the right decision but it is certainly useful when you need it. I tend to use it less than I would as I'm a little nervous as to how robust the hinge system is and don't want to stress it unnecessarily.

If you are looking to do video specifically don't get the 1D or 7D as you can't use Magic Lantern on them and this is invaluable for video - if you haven't already load it now and you won't question the comment.

I have to admit to having something of a semi for the new Black Magic. It's around £2K and will take Canon lenses. It won't do slo-mo (currently) but otherwise seems like a cracking piece of kit for the money.

If you are really aching for slo-mo you could always buy Twixtor (sic?)

And if you are doing action you have to have a GoPro. While not perfect the footage is entirely adequate and, at the price, it is sufficiently cheap to consider as a consumable.
