Hello everyone. I've been looking around for a good deal on the 50mm 1.8 here in Italy. Almost everywhere I go, it costs around 110-130 euros ($120+) brand new, which I think is ridiculous, since I've seen it on websites for around $70 brand new.

Well today I found a small camera store in Milan that had an odd camera that I saw for the first time; the Canon EF-M. It was made in the early 90s as a manual focus camera that used EF lenses. But then I noticed the lens attached to it. A 50mm 1.8 II and it was 110 euros. I'm buying it for the lens, but hey, it doesn't hurt to have this weird camera in my collection as well, right?

Seeing as how the camera and lens is clearly over 10 years old, I was wondering if this affects picture quality at all. I just got a 350D which is why I was looking for a 50mm 1.8 in the first place. Does 10+ years degrade the picture quality of a lens? Thanks...

lots of folks have lenses and camera bodies that are many many years old that work fine. as long as they were taken care of, they should not degrade as far as I know. just take pics with it and see. if that's a MK1 lens then I think you got a deal in USD if it's in working order. see if you can shoot with it on your XT before you buy it.
