My first bird shot

Ok, not counting the swans then...

I have put out food for the birds in our tree and last weekend I put my camera on the tripod and tried to catch the birds eating. Oh my gosh, I had no clue how tough it is! By now my full admiration goes to everyone who specialises in animal shots.

Nice. I love it when they hang from the feeders like that. Shooting birds certainly does take a great deal of patience. I think that is part of the appeal for me - if I get a decent shot, I know I had to work for it.

Yeah, I keep trying and trying and have gotten nothing so far. I need some of those magnetic branches or something.

Nice shot, love the background too. I wouldn't say shooting birds is tough, it can be hard work (walking miles and miles carrying a ton of gear on your back) but really it's just a matter of different skills is all. Learn a little about your subject matter and then practice lots. Shooting wild birds in their natural environment can be a very rewarding experience.

Good shot for your first Claire. Watch these fellows and see if there are any branches nearby that they perch on before going to the feeder. Once you identify those spots you may also be able to get a good shot of them on the perch.

Your first bird shot is definitely far better than my first. And it's a beauty too. I would like to know what type of bird it is.

Thanks for all your nice comments. I had my camera lined up with very nice framing of one of the feeders (that's what you call it?). The darn rascals kept jumping around though and I had to keep re-framing. I'm not fond of the brances to the left, but oh well. You guys don't want to know how many blurry shots I got before finding out how to finally freeze the birds!

The food is out now, so I have to buy new food for them so Ican practise my photography. They are called blåmes in Swedish, but no clue in English!
