What is your favorite lens, and...

What will be your next camera body?

I have only EF lenses and my next body will more than likely be FF, although I have considered a 7D.

When I had my 40D I shot with the 50mm 1.4 90% of the time for the kinds of shooting i do, which is people, events, vacations, home family sessions, stuff...That was my workhorse kit. I now have a 5Dmkii and of course the 50mm isn't the same.

I did add a 5d2 while keeping the 40d as a "backup"... I find it quite useful with the 70-200/2.8 if I need reach for anything, otherwise, I always have the Tamron 17-40/2.8 VC on it.

I got a 30D, then changed to 40D and now bought a 5d2. Still chaving 2 cameras on hands and deciding should i sell 40D or keep it?
I'd prefer some money for the camera, as i'm not a pro and don't need two cameras.

The only lens I have ever had on my 40d is the Rokinon 35mm f/1.4.

As for my next update, it really depends on what I can find on Craigslist. :p

I actually am on my 2nd 40d body. I had one go over into a gorge last November and after about a month I bought another 40d. It's also much quicker than my 5d2, really. At least in casual use. Both cameras have different tasks, and I wouldn't want to do without either one. If money was no issue, I might upgrade the 40d to a 7d... but I'd keep a crop sensor.

My 40D has seen a lot of use and it's still dependable.

Hands down best lens on my 40D was my 100mm 2.8 macro. I didn't use it for macro stuff all that much, I found it a very entertaining lens for general walk around purposes just because of how sharp it was.

On my 40D I would have to say it is a toss up between my 17-40 or my 70-200. As far as bodies go I already have a 5D2 so the 40D is a backup and a crop body to use when birding. It does not matter which lens though they all produce clean sharp images on the 40D.

I used to have a 40D paired with the 17-55 2.8.

My current body is a 5D2 with the kit lens as my walk-around gear.

The 15-85mm pretty much lives on my 40D.

I still havent compared if 5d2 slower or not. I'm amazed with the quality of 5d, however 40 is still a good choice. I probably will sell it to fund 35L or 135L or something.
But your post made me think about not selling it... However i cannot see any limitations for myself with 5d2. 5d3 will definately solve all the problems but the price...

My favorite lens (when my 40 was my primary) still is my 10-22. I absolutely love the fun things you can do with perspective, and also getting close to people, but still telling a story about thier surroundings.

The most used lens, on the other hand, is absolutely my 17-55 IS. This is the sole reason I didn't grab a 5DII last year: if I was going to add a new primary camera, and relegate the 40D to backup duty, I definitely needed that standard wide angle zoom. If I added the 5DII at that point (which was stretching the wallet a bit too much as it was), I would have also had to add another $1,400 or so for the 24-70 at the same time. No regrets, though, as the 7D is an amazing camera, and I've loved every second if it! :)

Yeah, the only "limitation" I would say the 5d2 or any full frame has is that the long end of the 70-200 is a lot shorter than on the 40d... a lot. Burst rate seems twice as fast on the 40d as well. Took the 5d2 and the 40d to a wedding and used the 40d for about 80% of the shots.

My 24-105L pretty much stays on the 40 unless at an airshow. Then I only bring the 100-400L. I have been waiting a long time to pull the trigger for a 7D but the 40 is still very reliable. Maybe when the next version comes out... whatever that may be. About 11K shots on the 40.
