kyarger Member 48 posts Joined Jan 2008 Location: NW Ohio, USA More info | Sorry for the late reply, this is a species of cicada known as the Dog Day Harvest Fly, known for their appearence during the "Dog Days" of August. (Although it seems they appear earlier every year!) The classic periodic cicada is kind of reddish. These are very common in Ohio, and very loud!!!
