Hi folks,

I have a mate installing CHDK on a card for me but he hasn't got my camera to see if it's the right version.

Can anyone please tell me how I find out what software version is installed on my Canon SX40?

Thanks very much

An easy way is to download a program called CameraVersion13 from the following link then open a .jpeg file using the program

Hi folks,

So, me being a bit slow, i've got a mate to install CHDK onto a 2gb card for me. I wasn't present at the time so he put the version on the card going by the firmware version I have on my SX40.

I've just got it from him and I loaded into the camera but then the camera doesn't even turn on. I put my 8gb card into the camera and that also doesn't turn on. What I then do is eject the battery and push it back in and then the camera turns on every time with the 8gb card back in. If I put the 2gb back in, I have to start the whole scenario again.

Anyone else had this?

Could be a lot of things, wrong firmware, card not set up correctly, if your friend has done it before and got it working on a different camera he should be able to help, the sx40 setup is not the same as some of the older powershots. Why don't you try it yourself, I posted a complete instruction link on a post about a week ago, I am on a phone now or I would repost

Check this post, after looking into it the sx40 should be the same as the s100

Hi Hans, thanks for the reply. It did turn out to be the wrong version loaded so now managed to get that working.

My main reason for using it, is to get the RAW feature. I thought I had managed to set up the RAW setting, it shows as taking shots in RAW but when I put the card in the pc, I cannot see the files at all unless I shoot with the DNG box selected.

If I shoot just as RAW there doesnt appear to be anything on the SD card when I put it in the pc. If I shoot with the DNG box selected, then I can see them on the SD card in the pc but the 'RAW/DNG' files do not show at all in my canon digital photo professional software that I use for tweaking and converting my RAW files with my canon SX95.

If anyone has any advice, that would be brilliant

Thanks

Ian

CHDK raw is not the as Canon raw. It must be your PC software that can't recognize the files, .DNG files work in PS Elements and many others but not in Canon software

Thanks for the reply Hans.

Apologies if i'm using you as my main source of info - when I take the images, they show on the camera fine but when I put them into the pc's card reader, nothing opens at all. When I take RAWS on my S95 and put the card into the pc, the autoplay option opens and I can open the card's files and can clearly see a RAW and JPEG file for each shot.

With the SX40HS, not even the autoplay comes up?

I must be missing something but not sure what, as I cannot see anything at all?

Try using a card reader
