Hi talented :)

I have Canon 40D, I used 17-85 with it for a long time; now I want to upgrade to f2.8

Canon 17-55 was the choice and within my budget but

after reviewing some "like the one below" I found Tamron 17-50 non-vc is better and cheaper

http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0 (external link)

and here at photography-on-the.net I read some threads recommended Sigma

I need Your help for the best one of them for WEDDING Photography

my 2nd option is to wait for canon 24-70 (if agree with that plz told my but u may recommend one of the tree 17-50 frist :) )

thanx in advance

I cannot tell you which lens to buy, but I just bought a 17-55 Canon and it's awesome. It's sharp wide open and the IS helps a ton when shooting without a tripod. You can click on my flickr link to see some pics I took with it.

Also I was contemplating getting a 24-70 and most people say that on a crop sensor it doesn't make much sense.

"cost vs. quality" or best for your budget ?

The Tamron is sharp and a value leader but if you have the budget (and want IS) get the Sigma 17-50 2.8, more features, same sharpness

my old Tamron is still pretty decent

I have the Canon 17-55 and the 24-70 L, I would recommend the the 17-55 for a crop, the 24 isn't quite wide enough. IQ of the 17-55 is as good and gains IS.

Not tried the Sigma or Tamron but if you take away value for money I believe the Canon 17-55 is the favorite in that range.

In a cost benifit analysis for the budding hobbiest the Sigma wins.

If however, you demand the absolute best quality from a business perspective, I would give the nod to Canon.

I'm surprised by the Canon 17-55 only having my official vote and everyone else is in favor of the Sig & Tam?

If the Canon was weather sealed and wore a red band people would think its a bargain?

The Tamron is a brilliant lens for the price, can be found for about $300-350 used $425 new.. has better optics than the sigma. It is wider on the wide end, focuses more accurately than the sigma is sharp at 2.8 throughout the focal range, more resistant to flare ... and focuses better at close range than the canon or sigma.

The canon efs edges out the Tamron slightly in corner sharpness but not by much from 35-50mm, certainly not enough to spend double the price imo one of the best lens for dollar returns you can get for a crop.

Most likely because the canon costs an outrageous amount and doesn't really give any improved IQ over the other two. Sure, if they were all free, I'd pick the canon, but price does factor into most peoples' decisions.

I say the Signa is the obvious choice followed by the reasonably priced Tamron.

I admit C17-55 are better than S17-50 but the difference does not worth the extra cash

I've had my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 for around five or six years. It's been into some pretty harsh environments and has had a heap of use. It's looking a bit scruffy around the edges, but keeps on producing great images.

Just to say, reading this thread I've just been looking the prices of each lenses here in Japan. The Tamron is 230$ while the Sigma is 518$. Canon is 900$.

For 230$ the Tamron is a hell of a deal!

Canon 6D | S35mm f1.4 | 135mm f2 The rest: T3i, 20D, 15mm f2.8, 15-85mm, 24mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, 90mm f2.8 macro, 55-250mm.
So long and thanks for all the fish
