Hi, I would like to direct this question to Arca Swiss Z1 users. I just acquired an Arca Swiss Monoball Z1dp quickset classic. I just wanted to confirm if this is normal - when you tighten the multifunction knob (to 6 for example), the knob can be moved outwards and inwards slightly (in the axial direction, not rotational direction) and wobbled sideways slightly? This "freeplay" goes away when the multifunction knob is loosened (to 0 for example). I can also see some kind of oil film in the gap between the knob and the body. Just wondering if this will attract dirt over time.

Mine does the same thing, the main knob is fairly loose, The last one I had acted the same way. I wouldn't worry about the oil too much.

The main knob on my Z1 doesn't do this, but I don't think you have any need to worry. My two Markins ballheads have back & forth play in the main knob and I never noticed it until someone asked about it here. Congrats on getting a really great ballhead!

I have sent an email to Arca-Swiss for clarification. I will post their response here.

Nice! Congrats on the Z1 DP. I wound up buying the Z1 SP. It does what I need it to do.

Your welcome. After getting used to the lever clamp, I've grown accustomed how to unlock it very quickly. You will love it. ;)

PM answered. The screw clamp works well too. I just prefer the lever. :)

I got the model with the screw clamp but removed it and added the Really Right Stuff Screw Knob clamp B2 Pro II.

The play is in the axial direction of the knob, not the rotational direction. In the tightened position, try pulling and pushing the knob in the axial direction. The play is not much and gets lesser in the release position. It could be there for some mechanical design reason.
