7D Top LCD Cover Replacement

I hope this might help somebody with the same problem I had. I had a couple of deep scratches in my top LCD cover on the 7D. I searched for information regarding how to change it, but only found information regarding the rear screen.

I also found conflicting information as to the location of the 'tab' on the cover. Some said it was the prism end, others said the opposite!

I ordered the part from Colchester Cameras, part no. CB3-5808-000.
I removed the old one using the only suction cup I could find in the house. It was a little large, but did the job. As can be seen in the picture of the camera, the 'tab' locating slot is at the prism end!

The cover was very easy to remove and left no residue behind. The new replacement has the adhesive already applied....no messing around trying to put that on!

Locate the 'tab' first and then just press the cover down. Whole job took about 5 minutes and that included taking the pictures.

I hope this clarify's it for anybody else who wishes to replace theirs.

Great straight-forward explaination of what now appears to be a simple procedure.

Pictures really help.

Thanks for posting.

Did you have to heat the cover at all? I have never had good luck in removing the covers with suction cups and had to utilize other practices.

An ideal suction cup I've found is the Nerf brand guns ammo. I did the same thing with my 7D recently and it was a perfect fit. Simple task otherwise.

Forgot to mention, I never had to heat it up with a hair dryer or anything.

Actually, shhh, I have done that, don't tell anyone. Needless to say, I had to be very careful. You don't want to try to put anything along the sides to pry up on those covers, because the mag body is quite soft and will mar. There is a pretty large gap between that cover and the LCD screen below it, they are not directly against each over.
