You are correct. I had gift certificates for B&H from my birthday and fathers day that I used for the lens. Looking to get the FF (5D2) in Oct unless I see a deal I can't pass up before than. Jul 28, 2012 02:41 | #4 I bought the 17-40 last August. I can count on one hand the number of times it's been off my camera. Have fun, and get a CPL for even more fun! ashwinsundar.com

Jul 28, 2012 07:31 | #5 How much distortion is in this lens? Obviously its there at 17, but what about in the 20-24 range? I've been considering this one myself when I upgrade my camera to FF Gear: 5D3, 135L, Sigma 35, 50 1.8 STM, 16-35 F/4L IS, 85/1.8, Fujifilm X100T

Jul 28, 2012 09:13 | #6 I just got mine about a week ago and will be using it on my 40D (don't have a FF... yet). I haven't had the time to really get into it yet, but so far I really like it! Click here to see a list of My Stuff

@23mm
@23mm
@17mm again.
I just bought this lens and found myself either shooting at 17mm or 40mm. Rarely did I want to zoom in between. Maybe it was because I was in New York CIty and I wanted to get as much of the buildings as possible. As far as the distortion goes, it seems like it is angle dependent. In the first shot the people are getting distorted and the on the Kodak sign you can see some bend but nothing to dramatic that cant be fixed in photoshop. https://500px.com/chriskennedydotphoto

Jul 28, 2012 20:47 | #9 There's a good amount of barrel distortion at 17mm on full frame. That said, it's hard to find a lens that doesn't have barrel distortion at such a wide angle. ashwinsundar.com

Don't worry about the background for printing- worry about the foreground detail. It's a wonderful lens when you figure it out. David
