littlest falcon

the amercian kestral. often seen but seldom noticed or cnfused with a solitary blackbird sitting on a wire above a field. it is not uncommon to see one every 1-2 miles along a country road.

I never realized how small these Falcons were until I attanded a release of a female...very small and I can see how people would confuse them with an ordinary song bird.

I like the second one but with a bit more room around. Very beautiful colors on these.

it's not uncommon to see one, but I've found it almost impossible to get close enough for a good attempt at a shot. Great job!

they are fairly easy to shoot once you know what to look for and do a little planning. after you have learned to spot one just go for the easiest setup. this most often will be when they are not on the hunt but just perching.

all of these were taken from my truck window. spot one, set your camera, drive up and take some quick shots. you will usually get 10-30 seconds before they take off.

yes they can be flighty but when you have so many out there the law of averages is on your side.
