Calling them memory shots, rather than snapshots just sounds better! We took a two week trip touring four different camp grounds across three different rivers in Texas this summer. I didn't bring much of my gear (worried for theft and taking away from our enjoyment, which was just being there for family time, not photo ops for dad!) I brought my 5d2, 300mm f/4 IS, and Tamron 28-75. I probably only got the camera out three or four times during the trip. One of each of the kids!

Oh, BTW, Group shots with all five kids mixed in with 5 mile hikes in the brutal heat of a Texas summer... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH. Yeah, no thanks.

1. My eldest daughter who is firmly in the don't take pictures of me stage...

2. My youngest daughter, who just loves bubbles more than about anything else in the world!

3. Aaron, my youngest son. He is like his daddy, and very serious all the time. His humor is very dry. This to me captured his spirit, even if it's not your typical SMILE FOR THE CAMERA!

4. The middle of five, Andrew. I don't know why I like this shot, everything tells me that it's a horrible shot, not much sharp, framing is all strange, subject is not clear, but this picture... I can't put my fingers on why I like it, I just do.

5. Alex, my oldest son. He's the resident take-nothing-serious-do-anything-for-a-laugh-goofball.

The framing on 5 looks odd. I may have cropped portrait on 2 and 3- the negative space isn't doing anything for me.. At first glance I may have trashed 4, but now I find it kind of cool for some reason.
Nice shots, I know how hard it is to shoot when you want to hang with the fam.

Hahaha I felt the same exact way about four, it almost got flagged a reject on the first pass through. I'll give the other shots a different crop treatment. I agree, in particular on #3 that the negative space is very... blah. I tend to crop to landscape most out of habit (used to cropping stuff for viewing on computers/tablets/digital frames). I think it makes sense to go portrait a little more. Thanks for the feedback!
