The 50D is essentially a 40D with a better (much better) viewing screen and a feature to adjust focus on lenses that are misbehaving. Add to that a little more resolution for image detail or cropping.

If you are happy with the 40d I recommend you keep it. There are various 40vs50 threads around the net and the 40d seems to generally be considered the better one despite the 5mp increase in res the better screen and the micro adjust. A friend has a 40d I used and liked. I bought a 50d and was disappointed

I've published a lot of work with a 40D, and while I shoot with a few 1D bodies currently, I like the 40D enough that I keep it as a backup. I've got no personal interest in a 50D or 60D for my own uses.

The 40D was my first body. I loved the camera, still considering another one as a back up. Overall the 40D was a solid camera from functionality ergonomics.

I have had a 50d for a couple of years and love it (also have 1ds and 10d) but is it worth trading your 40d and £100, I would ask why they are getting rid of a newer camera for yours? whats the shutter count on the 50d as opposed to yours? Even newer units can be heavy useage than older ones? Would I swap +cash well I would but try to get the cash down a little.

you can use the 8way nubbin on the back of the 50 d to change settings on the info screen like the 7 d - i have a couple of both 40/50 and use them interchangeably but 100 lb seem a little high to me

wants for Ls :D , now have 400do;500f4is,600f4 :cool: off to birding and airshows:):):)

I have both bodies and if someone offered me the deal you have been given as there isn't a huge difference in the 2 bodies I wouldn't take the deal you have been offered.
Given that both are used providing the 2 bodies are around similar shutter count and both in comparable condition I would do the exchange with a top up of £40 max
