So I hate when I'm driving around and see somewhere to shoot, but I don't have my camera with me. I've been wanting to keep my camera in my car but I wasn't sure if the heat would cause problems since its been hitting mid 90s this summer, so even hotter in a sitting car. Anybody have any suggestions? Would this cause a problem or would it be okay?

Thanks guys.

Might keep it in a cooler in the trunk (and bring it inside overnight). Not exactly convenient, but better than leaving it at home, and it'll stay cooler that way than in the passenger compartment. It'll also be less visible there.

Unfortunately I have a hatch, so it's pretty much getting hot everywhere lol I might go out and get a styrofoam cooler type thing and put it in the trunk part to have in there though...Seems like a good idea.

Get a good compact or an old camera like a 10D with a good but cheap lens (50 1.8 maybe or old 28 2.8) and leave it in your glove compartment. I don't like to leave my nice gear in my car. But old stuff and in little cooler bag should work.

The interior of a car can get up to 140 degrees F during the summer (I've measured it). Since a camera is relatively small, I'd get something better then the cheap styrofoam coolers. I probably not keep it in there any longer than necessary. Maybe get something to keep the inside of the cooler 'cool', but not cause condensation.

If you have to keep your camera in the car, store it as low as possible. The best place is usually the rear floorboard. Keep your windows cracked and a white towel over your equipment bag. This will usually do the trick.

Yea on the rare occasions I leave my gear in the car for any extended period of time, its always behind the front seat, on the floor and the front seat reclined to cover it. Thats the most insulated as well as the most visually blocked.

Never had a problem with my cameras in a hot truck with 95-100 degree temps. Padded camera bags are actually insulated qute well. I've opened my bag at 3pm and found it still cool to the touch. Stored on the floorboard with sunshades on the front 3 windows.

To experience heat, lay it down on the ground on a 100 degree day with the back of the camera towards the sun and put it up to your face. You'll learn to turn it the other way pretty quickly so the back of the camera is in the shade.

Car trunks, no problem, leave a lot of gear in them for days at a time. As noted above, soft bags do insulate, If you are paranoid, coolers are better. I used to keep film in a cooler in film days............

Mine lives in the boot of my car nearly all the time. We get hot humid summers here in the tropics & I have never had an issue. It stays in a Lowpro backpack which is pretty well insulated anyway.

I've never measured the temperature it operates at, but it works fine. The 7D stays attached to a 300mm 2.8 and in a soft bag. Spent a week in the trunk at Oshkosh and no problems (well except when I was out shooting it, I'd get it out about 1:30PM and return it about 6PM)

I couldn't find any "storage" temperatures - but it should be higher than "operating", although at some point heat may start to damages glues and battery
