I received a reminder notice this morning that my Gold Membership is about to expire.

I have read from fellow POTN Members that the renewal package no longer includes the welcome package (CPS strap, Book, Pin, Datebook, etc), but now only includes the 2 Clean and Check certificates.

My question: Has anyone had experience with allowing their membership to expire and then re-enrolling in the CPS Program at a later date?
If so, did the welcome package include the full package of party favors, or just the certificates? If it included the full welcome package - how much time expired between the expiration of your membership and your re-enrollment?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

I just renewed and received a very slim package. No strap, book or even a pin... Just 2 certificates for cleaning, some mailing labels and a few forms. Still a good deal but not as nice as it was. I was also wondering about letting my membership lapse, then renew. We need a guinea pig for this...

According to the CPS website, you still retain the same CPS number if you let your membership lapse and then renew at a later time. I'm fairly certain you won't receive another welcome package.

Or you could register under another name/etc ;)
Maybe use the wife's name..? not sure if they would set it up to "one membership per household" or something tho..
I dont know..I just got my first Gold Member package this week :D

but then you'd have to do the same thing every year...plus if you keep registering the same equipment under different names this will most likely set some red flags with Canon.

You'd also have to buy new gear, as your gear is already registered w/ CPS (you have to provide the S/N's of your gear when you sign up).

I am actually surprised that you used to get a full welcome package w/ a renewal. How many copies of that book do you need? Sure, would have been nice to get another CPS strap, and a new datebook for the current year (do people even still use these w/ tablets and smart phones?), but I can see them not sending them out.

Or maybe people would prefer that they raised the dues to cover the costs?

It would be nice if Canon will send a different package each time you renew your membership. They have plenty of goodies on photo shows each year, giving it away for free, so I don't see any reason why they stopped sending out welcome kits for renewals.
Or how about sending a new strap every time you register new camera? ;)

Are they sending a new version of their book at least (for a new members)? With a new telephoto lenses?

When I renewed last year, I received the vouchers and welcome letter, card, tc. No goodies as with the previous year.

However they do send you a new calendar date book :-)
