Hey guys,
Quick question for those that have experience with the 5D2 and the new 5D3. Is the IQ of the MK III the same as the Mk II? Also have they updated the AF on the 5D3? I have the 5D2, but hoping to get info straight from users of the 5D3.

Thanks
R

Very helpful thank you!!!:D but to answer your question no. I'm not a pro and circumstances have somewhat forced me to put my camera down for a while and not keep up with the latest and greatest, so to speak.

I know I can google the question and get info, but i was hoping to get it straight from users here. I trust the info here more to be honest.

R.

You will get your answers quicker on Google, or even above in the 5d3 review thread. There are tons of reviews of the camera and lists of all the improvements over the 5d2. And yes, the autofocus system has been updated.

Image quality is better and the autofocus system is hugely improved.

Was that so hard to say? :)

AF system is MASSIVLY improved. IQ I can't say, I've never used the 5D2. But I think the main reason people who have a 5D2 are switching to the 5D3 is for the amazing AF-System than for any IQ improvements.

It's basically a 7D/5D2 hybrid. Its a great combo of stats in my opinion. A one camera solution for me, I was considering getting the 7D and 5D2 to replace my T2i - but then the 5D3 was released and was the answer to everything I needed :)

I used to have the 7D and got rid of it for the 5D2 and I can say I do miss the AF system but not the IQ. IMO they don't compare in that. now that the 5D3 has been out for a bit and it's had a chance for people to really use it it sound like it really is everything that people wanted.

It might be time for a change, even though I love my 5D2.

Thank you for the feedback.

Really like the IQ and dynamic range of the 5D II. But missed the 100% view finder, grid in the view finder and the AF system of the 7D. This is one of the reasons I was still using the 7D in some situations. (moving objects, Zoo, etc)

Really happy Canon introduced the 5D III. Still using the 5D II for landscape (back-up body).

I love the MKIII, the focus system is simply amazing, but it's really important to read the whole 60 pages manual they have on the focus system. It's incredible how well it works if you use it to it's full potential.

The images from the camera holds plenty detail and the color is very "pleasing" if that makes sense, it just looks good.

love the MKIII!

Gotta love Canon's colours :) very warm!
Coming from a T2i I was thrilled with the IQ right off the bat. Haha, and all those AF points to choose from :D

I went the same route. If you can afford it go for the 5D Mark III. If not stay with the Mark II.
