Three weeks left to the Dream Cruise, but nobody here is waiting for it!
Except for this first one, all the following shots are at 1/15 seconds.

1. This is "the Shell" at 9:40 PM. Nobody is thinking about going home yet.

Man those images are incredible. How the hell did you keep them so sharp at 1/15??? Mine at that speed would end up looking like my mother-in laws vegetable soup.

Thanks, & I understand what you're saying.
First, a quote from Post #5 in First shoot with moving cars need advice.
"It's a crapshoot? Sharp subject while still keeping some wheel blur isn't easy & comes with practice.
It depends on the distance to the subject, the angle of movement to the camera of the subject, the focal length, the speed of the subject, the smoothness of your pan, & the effect that you're trying to get. Sometimes when I'm playing with blurs, I throw a lot away!"

Add to that that I'm sometimes shooting through a hole in traffic, & sometimes a pickup or mom's mini van is in the shot & I throw even more away.

Look at the grill in #5. The top is sharp but the bottom isn't. But the driver 3' away & the mirror on the right side look pretty good? What's going on with that?
So a rational person might say "WTF?" & delete it. But I like the feeling in the shot, so it's a keeper for me.

How about this one? If it wasn't for the drivers expression, it wouldn't be a keeper. Maybe not even with that.

This one, which I over processed just for the H of it, isn't as sharp as #5, but I like the feeling in it better.

One thing that I've found helps, besides trying to keep a focus point on the same place on the car, is to also zoom out to keep the car the same relative size during the exposure.

A lot of the fun in shooting this stuff is seeing what has happened when I get home.
Shooting wheel blur is Photography 101 compared to selective focus & angled motion shots. Don't look on the ones that didn't make it as failures. They're just part of the process.

Thanks for that Photosguy. I have shot a few car spinning events where the cars are doing donuts. Most of those shots the front of the car is in focus but the rear of the car is oof. Those look pretty awesome. I will try and find some. It's a similar effect.

Why so slow? Was that all the available light would allow? I like a few of them. But, the blur kills my eyes on some. I love the mood of #1 though!!

they're all a bit to soft for me?
7 is probably the best and that's only because the highlight is the sharpest part of the image.
cool idea for a car show though :)

Not a light problem at first. Some times I was at ISO 100 & f/16. It was picked from the previous weeks tests because 1/8 would probably be too slow & 1/30 might not have given enough blur. I haven't decided what shutter speed I'll use next time.

This stuff isn't for everybody, you know?

It's not really a show. The Shell owner just let's them park there.
