I purchased this lens used online and waiting for it to come in. I thought it would be a great lens on my 5d2 but I am hearing this lens is a DUD on reviews and peoples comments. Anyone have success with this lens or should I return it? I realize its older and doesn't have HSM but I figured a prime lens would have great IQ

Don't worry about what other people think of it. See if you can use it creatively and take advantage of its strengths or weaknesses to make interesting pictures. Shooting flat test charts with a large aperture wide angle isn't going to review well but you might get some great pictures of it. You might be able to use its characteristics to make something unique.

If you find that it just plain sucks, then send it back.

The Sigma folks might find some comfort in the fact that the Canon 20mm 2.8 gets regularly trashed as well.

Good points macroimage. I think it will be fine stopped down to 2.8 and beyond.

I hope I didn't over pay. They go for $650+ tax new and I got it for $424 in E condition. It was the only lens that looked interesting to me. I cant afford the 24L right now and I heard the sigma 24mm 1.8 has focus issues for canon bodies.
