Atop an old termite mound in Mala Mala game reserve which is beside Kruger Park South Africa. The animals freely move back and forth between the reserve and park.

I would advise anyone who can to plan to do a trip to Kruger Park area. South Africa is a wonderful destination.

Wishing you an awesome trip in October! Be sure to have take two camera bodies and lots of large fast memory cards. One day I filled one 32GB card and almost fill a second one.

Thanks MC I have three cameras, three 16 gig cards a 80 gig Epson storage/viewer and 700 gig portable hard drive. I will also have my laptop as there is ac power in the vehicle.
One of the things I want to do is lower the camera down the side of the vehicle on a monopod and use the live view on the laptop to get some ground level shots??. I hope it works or its going to be hard explaining to the insurance Co how a lion ate my camera for lunch.

On our trip we hand carried a Go Pro camera to our guide (a good friend). He shot lots of video clips with it hanging outside the vehicle, attached to various locations in the vehicle, on the end of a extended monopod, on the ground, and in a tree. We had great fun with it. He made a couple of trailers in iMovie.

Excellent, there is hope yet I am going to get the shots I want. What happened in the last part of the vid when the lion charged. Did it get the camera or did you get it up out of the way?
Thanks for posting that.

No animal got the Go Pro. We managed to retrieve it just in time.

Oh boy I can just see it now wipe the sweat from your brow. I saw another video where they sent the camera in on a remote controlled car set up. Lion cubs thought it was there Christmas present, it took hours to get it back...chewed up. They then armoured it and sent it in again a lion examined it and turned it on its back. They drove up to it and reached out of there vehicle and got it but it was nerve wracking as the pride were only a few feet away watching them.
Was there any difficulties you experienced when using the monopod to get some of your shots?

The biggest problem was running out of duct tape. Not like you can run down to Home Depot and pick a pack.
