All the shots are great. but I absolutely love the wolf shot. How far away were you, and where in the park did you get such a wonderful opportunity?

Probably around 30 yds. This was in the northwest region of yellowstone. The best places to see wolves are usually Lamar and Hayden valley in the morning or evening but many times like this one they just pop out of nowhere. The local ranger said they are doing this more often the past couple years.

Wow, that was an amazing shot of the wolf! Congratulations. Where was it exactly in the northwest? Was it in the Mammoth area? Or maybe the Madison area?

Madison area. We camped in West Yellowstone outside of the park and had the pleasure of driving that road in the morning an evening when all the critters come out to play.

Thanks, Adam. We've only seen a single wolf in the Madison area during our three visits since the wolves were reintroduced to YNP -- and it was a few hundred yards away. Our best luck was, as you mentioned, in Hayden and Lamar Valleys.

I had a lot of dumb luck (first time, maybe beginners luck?) This trip. Actually half the animals popped up randomly from places within an arms throw distance. Thankfully bison are big, and can't sneak up like that.

I think it was a couple years ago that a pack was hanging out all Spring by the Madison River. I don't believe they were seen last year or this year in that area though.
