Does anyone use a voigtlander 125mm APO f2.8 lanthar or a coastal optics 60mm f/4 APO? I have been reading about these two and they are mind numbingly expensive so I became curious because I usually see the mpe, 100L and 100 ef on here, so how about it? I cannot imagine spending $4,650 on a 60mm macro lens but Im sure some pro on here has something to say about these beasts of lenses. http://www.jenoptik-inc.com …s-ir-60-mm-apo-macro.html (external link)

they are made for UV and IR photography (forensics, scientific use). a bit of an overkill for general macro photography.

The Voigtlander (which is f/2.5 by the way) was originally a regularly priced maco lens, IIRC it was like $700. However, they only made a few of them in native Canon mount and after they stopped building it, demand FAR exceeded supply, so now it goes for ~2000+.

The Voigtlaender 125/2.5 is more common on manual / alternative lens forums. The Zeiss ZF/ZE 100/2.0, Leica 100/2.8 Apo and Voigtlaender 125/2.5 seems to be the top consumer macro lenses. The Canon EF 100 & 100L have AF and seem to be good, but not super.

The Costal Optics 60mm lens is a very special lens, I know one that - as far as I know - has this lens for UV photography (and some 100 other macro or UV lenses). It is more a lens for industrial applications and science / forensic. I think it is worth the money for these applications :-)
