Hi all,
I have a choice between 300mm f/2.8 and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. Which lens should I rent for a surfing competition?
Thank you in advance for your helps

Jul 30, 2012 09:04 | #2 Depends, how close to shore is the break? When I used to shoot the Vans on the North Shore of Oahu I rented a 600mm. Got tired of lugging that monster around and I started using my 300 with a 1.4x TC, and it worked well. Of the two lenses you mentioned, the 300mm is a great choice.

Jul 30, 2012 10:52 | #4 I think I'd try the 100-400. More flexibility in range and the slowness shouldn't be much of an issue considering the setting - though if the day's really overcast, you're going to have a problem. Be advised, I've never shot surfing events before so that's all theory Fuji X-T4, 18-55 and 55-200 zooms, Samyang 12

They are just little dots in my viewfinder. F4 is still plenty enough for overcast getting shutterspeeds of 1250/1000 with iso 100-160. http://www.flickr.com/photos/josteinsen/

Which lens should I rent for a surfing competition? Thank you in advance for your helps ^^ I've been shooting the US OPEN of Surfing for a couple of years now and the lens I often use is the beastly 400 F2.8L MKII paired with a 1.4xII. Those lens you're planning to rent are excellent glass and hope that fellow POTN'r Airbutchie can chime in as he shoots with the 300 F2.8L. We both shot the event last weekend and will cover the finals as well. Follow me --> https://www.instagram.com/shutterpat/

But that would be crazy to shoot some stuff up there. Whats the season in Norway? May have to make a detour on my way up to the platforms. We have the worlds longest coastline after canada so many surfspots up and down the coast. Not as hot as in other places people think of when surfing but with a good wetsuit some nutters surfe all year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/josteinsen/
