I got out for a few drives/hikes in the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies a few weeks ago. Here are a few of my favorites from the weekend:

1. Cub Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park. 24-105 L: 32mm, f/10, 1/25, ISO 100.

2. Fall River, Rocky Mountain National Park. Shifted panorama with 24mm ts-e. f/10, 1/5, ISO 100.

3. Front Range and Longs Peak from Trail Ridge Road, Rocky Mountain National Park. 24-105 L: 50mm, f/9, 1/4, ISO 100, with ND Grad. (I had to "un-do" some of the ND grad in LR, lightening it up by about 1/2 stop, because the 2-stop ND was too much.)

4. Cut in the Rock and Lightning, Rocky Mountain National Park. Shifted panorama with 24mm ts-e. f/11, 2.5 sec, ISO 50. (This shot really makes me want a lightning trigger!)

5. Dark Skies, Trail Ridge Road, Rocky Mountain National Park. Shifted and stitched with 24mm ts-e. f/11, 8 sec, ISO 50. Interesting light on this one...as the sun was setting, the storm from #4 made the underside of the clouds dark blue, but the foreground was lit up with diffused sunset light through thin clouds on the horizon. No color to the west, but it worked for shooting to the east.

6. Summit Ridge of Mt. Evans, with Mt. Bierstadt in the background. Shifted panorama with 24mm ts-e. f/11, 1/13, ISO 100.

7. Abyss Lake and Mt Bierstadt, Mt. Evans Wilderness. 24-105 L: 32mm, f/11, 1/50, ISO 400.

8. Lincoln Lake and Foothills, Mt. Evans Wilderness. 24-105 L: 28mm, f/10, 1/30, ISO 800.

I still feel like I am learning the tilt-shift...I am liking the high resolution shifted and stitched thing, but it's a lot tougher to frame the shot when you can only see a bit at a time. It's also taking me a while to get tilt dialed in for front-to-back DOF, but once there, it sure is nice!

Any comments or critiques are appreciated!

-Adam

Very nice series. I would say that you have the tilt-shift figured out pretty well.

Wow, absolutly gorgeous. And to think some people prefer to stay bottle'd up in the city for their whole life.

Wow, great shots. I really like the Cub lake, the lighting shot, and the Mt.Evans shots. We've been to Colorado 4 years in a row and I have yet to make it up Mt. Evans, looks amazing.

Thanks! It's definitely been fun to figure out, and I am finding it my go-to lens for landscapes when I have the time to set up.

I've really been enjoying the shifted pano stuff. It is so quick to take the pictures, and the processing is really quick and easy too. Really fun stuff.

I just wish I could get out more often! These days it is easy to get distracted with work and chores and never make it out of the city, but I'd go nuts if I couldn't get out to the mountains. (with either the camera, the mountain bike, or both!)

If you have never been up there, and are in Colorado in the summer months, it's definitely a must-do. Loads of wildlife, alpine lakes, amazing views, a forest of Bristlecone pines, with generally interesting weather. On the day I went up, it was 98 degrees F in Denver, and 49 deg F at the summit. It's a great way to beat the heat!

Wonderful shots. My daughter and I were in the mountains around Estes Park at the end of June. She wants to go back out in a couple weeks, I hope we can work it out so we can.

Um... Hi
