An interesting read/review of Canon's flagship the 1D X. It's a head-to-head against the 5D III. From an ISO standpoint, the 1D X is the better performer. Enjoy. :)

Nice summation of both cameras advantages at the end of the review.

Thanks for the link, its safely saved and I will very carefully read every word.

But a quick scan discloses one bias in the review. The intro talks about Canons merging of the 1D and 1Ds lines but nowhere is there a comparison with a top of the line landscapers camera. Something with some real DR and MP meat on the bones. If this is truly intended as Canons only top of the line camera for us landscapists, then lets see the evidence compared to Nikons latest and maybe even the medium format bodies. Forget about the extreme ISO's thats just a gimmick I don't need.

No, it still seems to me that the 1Dx is the new 1D and Canon are simply dumping the 1Ds users.

Brian seems very impressed with the 1Dx.....As he should be. I like that he puts all the cameras on the detail charts and ISO charts for real comparisons. Pretty obvious that the 1Dx is the king for canon. But the 5D3 and MKIV are pretty close. Your getting into hair splitting territory with these top of the line cameras.

Whats really interesting is to go back to the previous reviews like the MKIV and the 5D2 and see how those stacked up to the older cameras (5D,1Ds,40D) and how far ahead of the previous models they were and to compare that to the 1Dx. What im seeing bigger is improvements in the AF systems, ISO, and camera bells and whistles but overall IQ and image Quality characteristics have really slowed down in the improvement areas----Meaning the older technology is definitely capable of capturing breath taking images in ISO ranges up to 1600 and 3200 for the 1Ds.

It appears to me that the improvements in the 1Dx are exactly where i thought the technology would go,,,,,AF capabilities and ISO capabilities......the 1Dx can shoot in the dark and capture close to what we see with the human eye.......awesome technology and i think its going to improve sooner than we think. You can thank Nikon for that with the 800 sensor. Can only imagine whats going to happen in the next 3-5 yrs with the sensors. lots to think about for sure before you purchase. 3yrs is not a long time to wait for a major improvement.

Thats my impression. Which is fine if thats what the user wants. Sadly its not what I want, so either Canon rethink or maybe I need to in time. If Nokia can produce a phone camera with 40 odd megapixels then Canon are falling ever further behind. I'm very happy right now with my 5D2, but will need to think carefully about it in 2 or 3 years.

I thought Canon had pretty much officially said that the 1D X is the new direction for the line and it is being converged as a full frame, weather sealed, high performance line starting with the 1D X and the "s" variant was done.

I wonder if Canon will ever bring their 120megapixel medium format sensor to light.

Yes, thats certainly my understanding as well. I don't have to like it though! I hope in time they will think again.

The 70D will be more what the 7D is, and the 7DII will be a 1.3x crop factor to replace the 1D APS-H format.

Just kidding, before somebody believes this and makes it "internet truth". :)

Nice review, thanks for posting.
That 12fps "sewing machine" shutter sound was insane!
Especially compared to the 5DmkIII, 7D and 1DmkIV.

I was surprised at how much technology was imported over from the 7D (vastly improved of course), Made me proud of my little 7D! :D

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

I hope Canon makes that uber MP body you've been waiting for. :)

Canon also said they could not put professional AF in a 5D (when the mkII was released) because there was not enough space....
